Intro
Descartes (Jaguar partner) is offering EA Advance Notice messaging.
Effective 12/31/2010 EU (European Union) Customs starting enforcing new regulations which requires air shipment information to be sent via EDI transmission to the airline prior to departure.
This is effective for all shipments ex the United States of America bound to any of the EU countries and currently being used by the NY Office and is known as EUAN, which stands for European Union Advance Notice.
Conditions for EUAN
- Currently it is only the Air Export Dept of the New York office that is required to send an EU Advance Notification.
- This to be sent for any airline that JFS NY books directly with for all air shipments destined to and/or trans-shipping through an EU location.
- See current airline list here #EUAN Airlines & current country list here #EUAN From Countries & #EUAN To Countries.
- The HTS code/number is required for the freight that is shipping.
Mandatory Fields
The following needs to be filled inside of the CT & it's Master record, in order to "transmit" the EUAN to the airline:
- Airline Name
- Airport Of Departure country
- Airport Of Destination country
How to Transmit EUAN
These messages are not sent automatically and require user intervention.
EUAN Admin
EU Advance Notice & Air Status are currently shared in the Admin section of CT
Both the EU Advance notice and the Air Status Updates are shared inside the admin menu because it is Descartes who provides these 2 services to JFS and both are related to airfreight. Note the third, forth, fifth, sixth and seventh tabs are directly related to EUAN.
Parameter Tab
This is where we manage the EUAN messages that are being sent. It includes the time parameters that we use, for how often the system is to send the messages to the airline. As well it includes the server information that is used for passing these electronic messages.
EUAN MOTs Tab
This tab is where to manage the Modes Of Transport that are subject to EUAN notifications. Currently it is only MOT, Air that is subject to EUAN.
EUAN Airlines
This tab contains the list of current airlines, which JFS NY books directly with, and are subject to EUAN if cargo routing is destined to and/or trans-shipping through an EU location. Currently there are only two Airlines that JFS NY books directly with, which is the list on right, while the list on the left is a list of airlines we currently have setup in the database. Should you need to add or remove an airline, just select the name and use the >> or << arrows to move it.
EUAN From Countries
This tab contains a list of current countries that are subject to EUAN at time of departure, which is the list of airports on the right. While the list on the left, is a list of all countries, with airports, that we have in the database. Should you need to add or remove a country, just select the name and use the >> or << arrows to move it.
EUAN To Countries
This tab is a list of current countries that are subject to EUAN based upon the airport of arrival. The list of airports that are subject to EUAN are on the right, while the list on the left, is a list of all countries, with airports, that we have in the database. Should you need to add or remove a country, just select the name and use the >> or << arrows to move it.

FWB FHL Airlines Tab
This tab is not applicable and is not currently being used. Originally it was created for the airlines that do not participate in the air status and/or EUAN messaging, but would participate in other types of messaging. It was found that such a case does not exist and this tab will most likely be removed from this menu at a later date.
Logging of EU Advance Notice Messages being sent
Currently all Advance Notice messages sent to the airline are being recorded under our CT Systems Log. Once there, expand menu item 'Anywhere and select Air Status/EUAN. You also have search options which can be set by date and/or by the CT # inside of the text box "Component description contains:" Then select Show Log
Logging of FWB/FHL Messages
FWB stands for Forwarders Way Bill, which is directly associated with the MAWB #. Our system send a request for this information to the airline starting 24 hours prior to the set estimated departure and will continue to send a request every hour until the actual departure is received.
